Aeroplain is one of many projects by composer Massimo Fiorentino. The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles is a concept album that accompanies the novel of the same name by Haruki Murakami. The style of music is self described by Massimo as being "electronica fusion" and contains elements of jazz, funk, ambient and classical music. Each track corresponds with specific chapters and themes from the book; these excerpts are included in the pdf booklet of the album.
The music is well balanced and syncs up perfectly with the writing style of Murakami; capturing the empty space between dreams and reality; the self and the projected ego. One of the most haunting tracks on the album is "Kumiko", which sounds as if it was a ballad performed by ghosts in a disconnected alternate past.
